Much like The Fonz, Glenn Beck thinks he can say or do no wrong. But then he goes and “jumps the shark.”
From Media Matters:
Glenn Beck has repeatedly attacked the concept of social justice and churches that promote it, asserting that it is “code language for Marxism” and warning that “when you see those words, run.” In fact, numerous churches and religious faiths, as well as prominent religious scholars, espouse social justice, including the Catholic Church, the Conservative and Reform movements of Judaism, and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
Where is the pushback to this insult to many major religions, the Bible, and Jesus Christ, himself? So far, it’s only coming from Sojourners’ Jim Wallis. And if Beck believes what he says to be true, does that mean that the Bush administration’s Office of Faith-Based Initiatives was a waste of time? And if now neither governments nor faith-based organizations should worry about the poor and disenfranchised, then who will?
It must be nice and comfortable up there on that cushion of money, power, and privilege Mr. Beck is sitting on.
Has anyone heard of any other opposition to Beck from religious leaders?
Huffington says it’s not a good idea. Might be if the lovely ladies from The View are involved.
But then, things go ZOMGY as Goldberg calls him a “LYING SACK OF DOG MESS,” which is hilarious. Then Walters freaks out on him for claiming to be a reporter and yet not bothering to check his facts. And really, it just gets even more bonkers from there. Honestly, if you were to take a drink every time Beck comes off as totally disingenuous, you will require a new liver by the end of the segment. DO NOT DO THIS, OBVIOUSLY.
Or two.
First, Southern Beale shows us that Beck can stretch more than an equally annoying Cirque du Soleil contortionist:
I’ve been known to have my fair share of dumb moments but good Lord, this is the most stunning example cluelessness I’ve ever seen:
And Ben in TN says that the Beckmeister is using drug dealer arguments:
Glenn Beck is talking, thinking, and acting like a drug dealer. The mind-altering substances he’s dealing are his words, which are designed to skew people’s sense of reality, make them delusional, and incite fear and anger. Beck might not “try from his own supply”, but he knows exactly how to pull on the heartstrings and he’s zeroing in on disgruntled working-class Americans who have given up hope that democracy can work for them.
Why does Glenn Beck hate the families of the people killed on 9/11? I don’t know. Why don’t you ask him?

I think Michael Calderone of Politico has been doing this whole politcal thing for quite some time so I’m not sure why he believes that if David Axelrod, Robert Gibbs, and, ultimately, President Obama, stop punting on the Fairness Doctrine then it will quiet the wolves.
If Obama’s position on the Fairness Doctrine is the same as during the campaign — and I have no reason to believe it isn’t — stating that clearly would quickly silence a lot of conservative critics who assume the Democratic president is going to push to reinstate the defunct policy. Otherwise, the Fairness Doctrine chatter on the airwaves isn’t likely to die down.
The Fairness Doctrine red herring is red meat for the chattering classless and they’re not likely to let it go anytime soon – no matter what President Obama says.
