FYI, despite what you are hearing (has it reached CNN yet?) the New England Journal of Medicine did not publish or produce the health care “survey” that right-wing talk radio and cable TV are citing as proof that doctors are not fond of the health insurance reform bill.

Talk Radio At Center Of Health Care Debate

Rush Limbaugh TimeDecades of building a message delivery system infrastructure is paying off today big time. From NTS Media Online:

As Democrats in Congress mount the final push to approve President Obama’s health care reform proposal, conservative Talk radio hosts across the country are mobilizing the “troops” to defeat the controversial bill. Premiere Radio Networks talker Rush Limbaugh deviated from his usual policy of not giving out DC phone numbers on his show and actively called for listeners to “flood Congress with calls and emails.” Fellow Premiere talkers and FOX News Channel personalities Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck have also called for active protests from their listeners,…Meanwhile, Salem Radio Network hosts Bill Bennett, Mike Gallagher, Dennis Prager, Janet Mefferd and Michael Medved have all placed “Say No To Obamacare” buttons on their websites to encourage listeners to email Congress. So far, the hosts combined efforts have generated nearly 1 million emails urging defeat of the pending legislation.

There. So now you also know how “death panels” became a talking point so quickly.

Glenn Beck to Christians: “Ayyyyyy”

Much like The Fonz, Glenn Beck thinks he can say or do no wrong. But then he goes and “jumps the shark.”

From Media Matters:

Glenn Beck has repeatedly attacked the concept of social justice and churches that promote it, asserting that it is “code language for Marxism” and warning that “when you see those words, run.” In fact, numerous churches and religious faiths, as well as prominent religious scholars, espouse social justice, including the Catholic Church, the Conservative and Reform movements of Judaism, and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Where is the pushback to this insult to many major religions, the Bible, and Jesus Christ, himself? So far, it’s only coming from Sojourners’ Jim Wallis. And if Beck believes what he says to be true, does that mean that the Bush administration’s Office of Faith-Based Initiatives was a waste of time? And if now neither governments nor faith-based organizations should worry about the poor and disenfranchised, then who will?

It must be nice and comfortable up there on that cushion of money, power, and privilege Mr. Beck is sitting on.

Has anyone heard of any other opposition to Beck from religious leaders?

Spring Breakin’ 2: No Liberadio for You

Breakin 2 PosterJust a heads up that there won’t be a Monday, March 8 edition of Liberadio(!).

I’m in Syracuse at the 25th reunion for WJPZ 89.1 FM, a college radio station I used to work for and I don’t get back until Monday.

Well, that’s just not true.

I’ll be back on Sunday in plenty of time to see They Might Be Giants at the Exit/In.

So we’re really not doing the show because I can’t possible see reunion-ing it up all weekend, TMBG-ing it up all Sunday night, and then getting up at 5 am on Monday to do the show.

I’m just being realistic here.

And besides, Vanderbilt is on Spring Break.

We’ll miss you guys.

“Must See TV” is back on (MS)NBC with Rachel Maddow, who is doing amazing work. Her appearance on Meet the Press last Sunday was stunning when she held Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.) accountable for “railing against a spending bill in public while touting its benefits in his home district:”

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

And last night she continued shining her special brand of sunshine on the Republican legislators who simultaneously praise the good results of stimulus dollars with their hands out for more while tearing down the stimulus bill because…well, because of the good results and their willingness to destroy the country to take back even just a little bit of power:
