Oh The Young People

Ice BlockSo I’m not sure if you noticed but WRVU scheduled a student-hosted “conservative talk” show on Monday mornings right after ours.

It’s been a little chilly in the studio between show transitions but today the young male host decided to break the ice:

“So,” he said, referring to the passage of health insurance reform, “that was a big victory for you yesterday.”

Perhaps it was watching all that unsubstantiated obstructionism on Cspan yesterday, or maybe it was the Twittering, but I just couldn’t help myself. I turned on the snark.

“It was a victory for 32 million Americans who don’t have insurance,” I snapped back.

And then I added for emphasis, “I have insurance…that I pay $1200 a month for.”

They just don’t get it. But maybe I should be nicer about it.

I have many conservative friends and we make an effort to keep it light or avoid the discussion altogether. Something tells me this summer might put that philosophy to the test.

  2. Mary Mancini says:

Wrong, Roger, we both come off badly here. He comes off badly for his complete lack of empathy (evidence: his on-air banter about health care) and I come off badly for my lack of patience (evidence: this post).

  3. Roger Abramson says:

No, he’s probably just thinking that you seem to lack basic social skills. From your own version of events it sounds like he was just congratulating you. He’s not the one who comes off badly here.

  4. Mary Mancini says:

That’s another thing I’m sure he’s not thinking about, SoBe.

  5. Depending on how “young” this young male host is, he might now be able to stay on his parents’ insurance policy up to the age of 26.

Though I’m sure he’ll take the principled stance and demand of his parents that he be allowed to pay for his own health insurance. /snark
