Defunding the Left

Michele Bachman tipped the GOP’s hand back in September when she spoke at the conservative fringe How to Take Back America Conference:

Taking the stage, Bachmann thanked Schlafly, calling her an inspiration as a mother who transitioned into conservative politics, and said she considered the conference “a farewell party for ACORN!” The community organization group, she said, was the first, not the last, weak link in the liberal establishment.

“Defunding the left is going to be so easy,” said Bachmann, “and it’s going to solve so many of our problems.”

And the defunding strategy is nothing new. “It goes back to at least 1981,” writes Muriel Kane for RawStory, “when the Heritage Foundation published a set of over 2000 policy recommendations for the Reagan administration.”

Ah yes, the Heritage Foundation. Whose co-founder Paul Weyrich believed that conservative leverage in an election goes up “as the voting populace goes down.”

Defund the left. Start with ACORN who has helped to register 1.7 million low- and moderate-income and minority citizens to vote since 2004.

Fits in nicely with their overall mission.

Yeah, let’s blame ACORN for the housing collapse. While we’re at it, let’s blame ACORN for 9/11, Area 51 and the Preds never winning a playoff series.

We know now a few things:

    — It took O’Keeffe and his people months before they found someone stupid enough to go along with their scheme.

    — Through tapes released by the California AG, that ACORN officials acted appropriately when O’Keeffe came through their doors — even though O’Keeffe’s people claimed otherwise on TV.

    — O’Keeffe later tried to bug a Senator’s office.

In other words, we know now that 95 percent of the stuff against ACORN was racially tinted bull. But this isn’t a story you’ll see widely covered in the media.

I know it’s inconvenient for a lot of people, but the poor deserve a voice in this country, too. No worry for you, however. I’m sure Republicans will find new ways to just hang out these people out to dry and carry on as before, and exclude those people from every entity.

Acorn should have been defunded. Some of those 1.7 million people registered were registered more than once. Also, Acorn pushed for looser bank loan requirements in housing, during the Clinton years, which contributed to the subsequent real-estate bubble and collapse.

No worry for you, however, I’m sure they’ll just hang out a new shingle with a different name and carry on as before. Shuffle those same people into a different entity.

  3. Dean says:

“I definitely don’t understand why ACORN needs to help register voters.”

A lot of organizations — some partisan, but not all — conduct register-to-vote drives. You’ll likely find Democratic drives in the Jefferson Street and East Nashville areas. You’ll likely find Republican drives in the Green Hills and Brentwood areas. A lot of those who need registering help are seniors who don’t drive. These people aren’t lazy — they need assistance.

Mary, I don’t understand the whole blog, but I definitely don’t understand why ACORN needs to help register voters.

Seems to me it is as easy as going down to the DMV when you renew your license and registering.

Oh wait, there is an easier way. Call the voting commission, they mail you the registration, you fill it out, mail it back, and BAM you are registered.

Thank you, ACORN, for spending federal dollars to help people that are too lazy. Thank you.

Making Marsha Blackburn look smart ain’t an easy task.

This woman makes Marsha Blackburn look moderate.
