Let’s compare apples to apples, right-wing radio host Mike Slater.

President Obama in Denmark to advocate for the Olympics in Chicago can’t be compared to President Bush on vacation in Crawford.

President Obama in Denmark to advocate for the Olympics in Chicago can be compared to President Bush on a four day tourist visit to the Olympics in Beijing during an economic crisis.

You’re right about one thing though, it doesn’t matter where you govern from because it’s the results that matter. Where we are at the end of one Obama term can be compared to where we were at the end of one W. term. Can’t wait for those results.

I don’t think it’s a hometown thing. Chicago was chosen as the U.S. bid city prior to the election. It’s not like if McCain had won, Phoenix would get the Olympics.

  2. Ryan says:

Dean, Bush didn’t leave the economy in the shape that Carter left it. Not even close. 20% inflation? 22% interest? Remember that? That not a good comparison, but I understand what you are saying. Reagan didn’t fix the economy in the same way Obama is trying though, did he?

I agree.. Chicago is the wrong place for the Olympics.. but its hometown for our finest, right? Good ol’ boy got him there, good ol’ boy has to be paid back.

I think if Jay Cutler makes it 7 yeaars in Chicago that he will be a good quarterback by then. He isn’t a bad quarterback, per say, but he did play for Vanderbilt. He has some adjusting to do that will take longer than a year.

  3. Dean says:

By the way: If there are charges of corruption with this process, can we say “There’s something rotten in the state of Denmark?” or would that be too cliche?

  4. Dean says:

Actually, I think the whole thing originated with conservatives making the Bush/Obama comparison, arguing that if progressives blasted Bush’s many vacations, they should also blast Obama for his Copenhagen trip. The comparison is, of course, laughable.

By the way, Ryan, remember that in Reagan’s first mid-term, the economy was still on shaky ground (although we had started to pull out of it by the summer of ‘82).

I will say that as an avid sports fan, I don’t want to see the Olympics in Chicago. By 2016, Chicagoans will busier watching more Cubs’ futility, pining for Ozzie Guillen’s diatribes, enjoying memories of both the Stanley Cup and the epic Northwestern-Notre Dame national championship game, and paying off psychotherapy appointments after watching Jay Cutler for seven years. And if Brazil gets it, headline-writers all across the country can pull out “Blame it on Rio.”

  5. Ryan says:

You liberals just can’t let Bush go, can you?

Lets see where we are at the end of this term… Let’s see where we are next year at election time, better yet.

Poor little democrats are going to be crying about unfair elections, mark my words.

  6. Blayne says:

Thanks for this info Mary!!! We have short memories don’t we? Haha

  7. Mary Mancini says:

OMG Mike! You watch Olbermann too? That is very impressive…

  8. Mike Slater says:

First off, I’m with you. In other news, I’m glad we were watching the same show at 7:45 last night.
