Last week I was compared to a “birther†(see: Lou Dobbs) because I don’t think any votes ever cast during any election using the 100% unverifiable electronic voting machines we use now in 93 out of 95 counties in Tennessee has ever been recorded accurately, as per the voters’ intent. Ever.
Ironically, the “birthers” questions about the legitimacy of Barack Obama’s birth certificate has been anwered, but my question has not.
And, because it has not, today begins “OPERATION: Please Offer Proof,” also known, thanks to Freddie’s mom and and Steve Scarborough of Roaneviews, as “Operation: POP” and the “Proofer” movement.
Today I am calling on Secretary of State Tre Hargett and/or State Election Coordinator Mark Goins to present proof to the voters of Tennessee that one vote cast electronic voting machines has ever been recorded accurately. Shouldn’t be too hard, should it? We’re only asking for proof of one vote.
Coordinator Goins doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with the voting machines we use now.
Great. Let him prove it.
Coordinator Goins also wants to wait until next legislative session to decide on whether or not to give us secure and verifiable elections.
OK. We can wait. But only if the system we use now can be verified as full proof. If it can’t be verified then we must act now of the results of every election held in 2010 will be suspect.

Thanks, Chas, I listened to it. The professor described the perfect system as if he were reading from the TN Voter Confidence Act. Too bad our Sec of State is turning a partisan deaf ear to what could be a verifiable system.
On Friday Public Radio had a segment featuring a professor who explained how easy it was for their group to hack an electronic voting machine (obtained at auction).

Dear 9,
Do you know how your vote is counted on the touchscreen electronic machines we use now?
In other words, when you choose your candidate and touch the vote button, do you know how the software tallies you vote?
So you prefer a paper system that can be rigged like the one in Florida?
I see you haven’t changed.
You know, Joe. We’re just never going to agree on certain things so let’s just agree to disagree.
But let’s find common ground on this voting machine issue. Will you join me in Operation: P.O.P. and call for the Tennessee Secretary of State and the State Election Coordinator to prove that the machines we use in Tennessee actually work?
Oh, I see, Mary, you really don’t want undeniable proof, just proof that supports your politics no matter how weak or manipulated it may be.
Circumstantial evidence isn’t adequate for trampling upon ANY part of the US Constitution. We have an amendment process for that.
Agreed. We saw President Obama’s birth certificate. We have the Downing Street Memo. We have melting polar ice caps. Now if we can just get SOS Hargett to show up the software that counts our votes, we’d be good to go!
I cannot say that I disagree with the premise of demanding proof beyond any shadow of doubt. Birth certs, wmds, global warming, voting booths, whatever…
