Congressman Jim Cooper (D-TN, the Fightin’ Fifth!), will observe Memorial Day on Monday, 5/25, at 2 p.m. at the Nashville National Cemetery.
NASHVILLE—U.S. Congressman Jim Cooper released the following statement in observance of Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2009:
“For centuries, Americans have put themselves in harm’s way in order to defend our nation. They have been separated from loved ones, undergone terrible hardships and faced deadly peril. Many were wounded in combat. Some gave the ultimate sacrifice.
“Today we honor the brave men and women who have sacrificed so we can be free. We give thanks for those who have given their lives in service of this nation. And we pause to remember our troops and their loved ones, particularly those currently serving overseas.
“America is the greatest country on earth because of the spirit, character and dedication of the men and women who have served. On this Memorial Day, we remember and honor them all.â€
Cooper will observe Memorial Day by joining other Middle Tennesseans in remembrance on Monday at 2 p.m. at Nashville National Cemetery, 1420 Gallatin Pike.
