And here I thought that Rep. Gerald McCormick (R-Chattanooga) just hated democracy. Turns out, he’s simply preparing as best he can for a future congressional race:

State Rep. Gerald McCormick from Hamilton County (Chattanooga), which has the largest concentration of voters — about 43% of the likely Republican Primary turnout, has expressed interest in the race, but will probably not make decision until after the legislature adjourns in May or June. McCormick may also get points for having served in the Gulf War. McCormick has publicly endorsed Wamp’s gubernatorial bid, although Wamp has given no indication that he favors any of the contenders for his congressional seat.

Let’s see what Rep. McCormick is doing to maximize the impact of any votes and any money he might get in the race for Congressman Wamp’s fightin’ 3rd:

Circumventing the democratic process and surreptitiously resurrecting legislation that would suppress the vote of the elderly, the poor, and disabled. Check.

Cynically not suppressing the vote a different group by surreptitiously resurrecting legislation that would allow “certain members of the U.S. armed forces to return an absentee ballot by facsimile transmission or similar electronic means.” Check.

Other legislation that Rep. McCormick sponsored but hasn’t yet figured out how to bring back from the dead…

HB0105 that would allow corporations to make campaign contributions in Tennessee, and HB1719 that would allow “trade and professional associations to fund PACs.” Check and check.

I guess he gets points for planning ahead.

Rep. McCormick will not be running for Congress. Guess that shoots your liberal, left-wing theories in the feet. It amazes me how you hand pick a few of an individual lawmaker’s voting record on bills, amendments, etc. and use that isolated knowledge to qualify yourselves as experts licensed to make blanket, derrogatory statements about the lawmakers on a personal level. And “NUTmeg”, accusing Rep. McCormick of supressing democracy…unbelieveable!! Honestly, this guy served over a year of his life in the Gulf War trying to bring democracy and freedom of speech to a citizenry….that same freedom of speech that you so quickly abuse in your own nation. And “democracy drumming Republicans out of power”? Did you not see the results of the Presidential election in Tennessee? Who were your math teachers???? You people amaze me. You twist and contort information to suit your own bizzarre theories. I am proud to be an American, I am proud to be a Tennesseean, I am proud to be a Republican, and I support Rep. McCormick. I will make no apologizes for any of this things. I do think one should have to show identification to vote because, whether you want to admit it or not, there is fraud. I do not want a fraudulent vote cancelling out mine. And besides, how on earth would having to show an i.d. to vote suppress the vote of elderly, poor and disabled? Let me guess, these citizens are not allowed to have i.d.s because the “evil Republicans” won’t allow it. I think that soldiers serving in combat in other nations should have equal opportunity to cast their votes. Maybe faxes, etc. aren’t the best way, but a best way that is fair, equitable, and LEGAL should be found. Well, thank you for listening. I appreciate the space to vent, but I have to get off this blog. I haven’t been this mad since the 2008 University of Tennessee FOOTBALL SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…Oh, one more thing, back off Kevin!! He has a right to disagree with you….you wouldn’t want to suppress democracy.

I’m staying in Tennessee, Kevin. Why don’t you leave?

  3. Kevin says:

Instead of pandering to your base, make a decent argument that would convince someone that doesn’t already have a pre-conceived notion. There’s nothing in your post that even makes a point.

  4. Kevin says:

What a crock. You guys don’t have a clue. I love how you word your post. Go back to New York, we don’t want you here in Tennessee. I’m sorry that I found your blog.

  5. [...] attempt by a visibly frustrated Rep. Gerald McCormick to invoke Rule 80 and revive these bills in the State & Local Government Committee after all [...]

Of course, no one ever uses an email or fax machine to commit fraud!

Are those soldiers going to show their IDs? OK, I guess they could squash their faces down on the fax machine or scan them.

(I have collected nearly 700 “Nigerian fraud” emails I have received since 2002.)

I am sooooo sick of these Republicans supressing votes. Why do they hate democracy so much? The reason is simple. They hate democracy because democracy has drummed them out of power. Nobody wants what they are selling anymore. Tinkle down economics is a proven failure, and for Repubs its like finding out your daddy is a bank robber. They will defend the indefensible til they are blue in the face. After all, they are nothing more than spoiled little children who have suddenly been been told no.
