Part 2 – Interview with Rev. Jim Lawson – Rev. Lawson, civil rights icon, Distinguished Professor at Vanderbilt, and a most thoughtful human being, weighs in on the need to continue to teach the principles of nonviolence; the similarities and differences between the civil rights struggles of various communities (women, African-Americans, gays, etc.); and Nashville’s English Only referendum. He called the election of Barack Obama a gift to the American people. We think his being a guest on our show is a gift, and not just because it’s (almost) Freddie’s birthday. The proposed amendment is unconstitutional. Let’s just hope we don’t have to take it further than the referendum. A costly court battle is not what we need during a deep recession.
Hola Mary, Freddie, Everyone! I agree that this English Only issue is important. That is why I think anyone who is going to vote for or against this proposed amendment should visit this site first:

Trust me, it may not be what you expect. We think our reasons for the Nashville English First (by first we mean only) movement are even better than the ones provided at that other Nashville English First site.
