It’s the last day to register to vote in Tennessee. Your voter registration must be ether dropped off at your county election commission before they close or post-marked by midnight. The US Post Office on Royal Parkway is open until 11:58 pm today. Don’t wait!

Open Presidential Debate
7:00pm (Reception to follow) presented by Coalition for October Debate Alternatives (CODA), the Nashville Peace Coalition, and Vanderbilt Students of Nonviolence. Vanderbilt University 4309 Stevenson Center, Bruce Barry Moderator with Brad Lyttle, US Pacifist Party; * Charles Jay, Boston Tea Party; Frank McEnulty, New American Independence Party; Gloria Lariva, Party for Socialism & Liberation; Brian Moore, Socialist Party; Chuck Baldwen Constitutionalist Party. For those who are unable to watch the debates in person, it can be viewed live on the website of Vanderbilt University. The debate will also be archived on the internet. The format for the debate will consist of policy and platform questions concerning the economy, foreign policy, health care, the environment, civil liberties, the federal budget, reproductive rights, international trade, gun rights, campaign finance reform, immigration, education and race and gender. Each candidate will be given two minutes to make introductory statements and then one or two minutes per question to answer policy and platform questions. The debate will end at 8:30pm with a candidate’s reception to follow in the lobby of the Stephenson Center. Nice.

The 2008 Presidential Election: Where We Stand and Where We Are Headed 10 am - 12 noon, at the First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt. Discussion will be led by John Seigenthaler, founder of the First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt, and Harold Ford Jr., a visiting professor of political science at Vanderbilt and former congressman. National experts Political scholars, journalists and pundits offer their informed perspective on where the 2008 presidential election is headed during a forum for students sponsored by Vanderbilt and the First Amendment Center. The panelists will include: Mike Allen, chief political correspondent for Politico, who previously covered national politics for Time and The Washington Post, John Geer, Distinguished Professor of Political Science at Vanderbilt and an expert on campaigns, public opinion and negative ads, Howard Fineman, Newsweek’s senior Washington correspondent and columnist, senior editor and deputy Washington bureau chief and NBC News analyst, John Harwood, chief Washington correspondent of CNBC and a political writer for The New York Times. Joe Klein, senior writer and columnist for Time and author of best-selling political novel Primary Colors, Richard Stengel, managing editor of Time.com and columnist for MSNBC.com. Because of limited seating, the event is open only to Vanderbilt students.

Obama Supporters March to the Debate 4:30 p.m. The march will commence with a rally at 21st Avenue and Magnolia Boulevard, then proceed to the Belmont campus.

The faculty panelists are: Stephen Buckles, senior lecturer in economics, John English, senior lecturer in communication studies, Cynthia Paschal, associate professor of biomedical engineering, Vanessa Beasley, associate professor of communication studies. East House, Vanderbilt Election Alliance and the Dean of the Commons are sponsoring the party and discussion. The event is open to the public.     I think Barack looked so nonchalant and brilliant tonight that the spin is nearly crazy-making?

    I want to use a period or exclamation point after the last statement, but the National Media demands a ?

    I can’t imagine a world in which McCain can win.

    That said, I am not a big Obama fan….

    However, when it comes to conscious, strong, vision - versus reactionary, political, scheming - I can’t imagine a McCain presidency..
