They’ve often been told by their constituents to “go jump in a lake,” so we’re not really sure where the controversylies with tonight’s Great Swim Across the Cumberland. I mean, if all council members were as diligent with these types of requests as Councilwoman Emily Evans (The Fightin’ 23rd!), Councilman Jason Holleman (The Fightin’ 24th!), and Councilman Mike Jameson (The Fightin’ 6th!) then we’d have one happy, snappy city!
That said, tonight’s 500 foot swim, which is scheduled for 5:00pm at Riverfront Park, has already served its purpose - prompting Nashvillians to startchatteringabout the state of the river and its environs.
On Monday morning, we held our breath and interviewed, in depth, Evans, Holleman, and Jameson. After we made some waves, we rapidly got to the bottom of some of the more contentious issues. We came very close to getting in over our heads, but in the end, it was smooth sailing.

Also on Monday, June 16, at 7:30 am (CDT), three of Metro Council’s finest
- Emily Evans, Jason Holleman, and Mike Jameson - will join us to talk about their swim across the Cumberland River. The Thursday, June 19th (5:00 PM) trek will, according to organizer Evans, prove the long-neglected river is now clean and safe. ” Crazy publicity stunt?” Creative way to draw attention to a valuable Tennessee resource? We interview. You decide.
What did we say?!? Stop thinking about big ears…long trunk…and enormous toes on ginormous feet. Ok, fine. If we can’t get you to not think of the two ton you-know-what in the room, then maybe George Lakoff can. Dr. Lakoff, the author of the superb Don’t Think of An Elephant, has just written a new primer on how Democrats can use language to win back the White House this November. We’ll talk to him on Monday morning, June 16, at 8:10 am central about The Political Mind: Why You Can’t Understand 21st-Century American Politics with an 18th-Century Brain, and hope to God that Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Howard Dean, and Barack Obama are listening.
By turning it on you invite people you don’t know and will never meet into your living and, if you’re obsessive about watching the same shows, you get very used to them being there. We didn’t know Tim Russert personally, and we sure didn’t always agree with him. But now he’s gone and our Sunday morning stories will never be the same. Our sincere condolences go out to those who really knew the man behind the flat-panel.

I’m not going to repeat or link to anything Bill Hobbs actually blows hard about, but the man wouldn’t know truth or nuance if it bit him in his pay pal tip jar.
Is there a Guinness World Record for the number of times “Barack Obama” and “terrorism/terrorist” get mentioned in the same sentence? If so, Fox is on it.
Seriously. Considering the follow up discussion didn’t even mention her remark, how do these people live with themselves? Enjoy hell, E.D..
Does Eric Crafton’s “Nashville English First Petition” website really mean to imply that Theodore Roosevelt’s 101 year old quotes on immigration include a direct reference to English being the official language of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, or am I missing something?
