Mary,
Then I guess you're conceding that Huckabee--even though an obnoxious hypocrite, at least has a proper view of the relationship between religion and government?

But, again, is this the first time it dawned on you that Christians who support Capital Punishment are hypocrites?

Actually the bible does endorse the death penalty for capitol offenses, even in the new testament...

Huckabee responded very well to this and shows the level of thought and heart that goes into what he stands for.

The same God says ‘don’t kill’ in one verse and says ‘kill’ in 4 verses on the same page, not to mention the other times He says it.

I guess since Jesus told believers to turn the other cheek, government shouldn’t have laws, much less enforce them?

Exactly the reasons why the Bible and our government shouldn't mix.

Wow, Mary, is this the first time this argument has occurred to you?

It is incredibly easy to say "thou shalt not kill" and try to say that settles it. But for those of us who actually do believe the Bible is the word of God and know more than a couple of favorite verses, it is not that simple. The 10 commandments are in Exodus chapter 20, and it says don't kill, but in the next chapter there are 4 actions that are condemned and it clearly says that the one who does those things was to be "put to death". The same God says 'don't kill' in one verse and says 'kill' in 4 verses on the same page, not to mention the other times He says it. According to these verses, there is a difference in the death penalty executed by government and an individual deciding to go kill someone. The Apostle Paul said, "If I have done anything worthy of death, I refuse not to die."Acts 25:11

[...] Mike Huckabee may have left his personal obesity behind but Mary Mancini still thinks Mike Huckabee is a big, fat hypocrite. Go see what she’s on about: What would Jesus do about the death penalty? Well, according to the book that Huck believes “was a revelation to us from God Himself” and you “either believe it or you don’t believe it,” he wouldn’t stand for it. He’d abolish it. He’d just say no and condemn any that allowed it. But then again, he did have first hand experience so his empathy comes as no surprise. [...]

I know. The allure of The Huck is strong. You must resist! Seriously though, I think he uses humor, which is an attractive quality, to deflect serious questions.

I strongly oppose the death penalty yet I found Huckabee's response to be well reasoned and carefully (even prayerfully?) thought out. Huckabee shows the unique ability to take his faith seriously (such as in God's role in Creation), yet maintain a sense of humor (Jesus not running for office). I'm seriously tempted to go register Republican so I can vote for this guy in the primary.
