Senator Lamar Alexander Also Snags Environmental Award

Bob Krumm believes that former Tennessee Senator Al Gore’s Nobel Peace Prize win puts him in “mediocre” company – like Mother Theresa, Jimmy Carter, and Martin Luther King.

Current Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander also won environmental kudos. The Grammy On the Hill award was given to him in 2005 for “significant contributions to the musical community and improving the environment for music and its makers.” Other winners include Missy Elliott, Natalie Cole, Gloria Estafan, Vince Gill, and Kelly Clarkson.

Enclave Mike sees a correlation between the SCHIP kid “pile on” and Krumm’s post. Music City Bloggers weigh in as well.

Mother Teresa and Rev. King are on my list, along with Gen. Marshall and Lech Walesa, to show a representative sample of people who received the award. I didn’t want to be accused of cherry-picking only the undeserving recipients like Annan, Arafat, and the Briand-Kellogg crew to show that the award is worthless. That’s not entirely true since there actually have been some deserving recipients.

However, sadly, the award has haphazardly been given to the good, along with the bad and the ugly.

“The two award recipients you mention (Mother Teresa and Rev. Martin Luther King)…are exceptional standouts.”

So why are they on your list?

“Also, I wouldn’t call Jimmy Carter “mediocre.” He’s not nearly up to that standard.”

Just because you don’t like what he says or does, doesn’t mean it has no value to others.

  4. [...] Some have taken me to task for the “mediocre” moniker. No, Mother Teresa and Rev. Martin Luther King, along with Gen. Marshall, Dr. Schweizer, and Lech Walesa are not themselves mediocre. They are instead the exceptional standouts. [...]

    Mary,
The two award recipients you mention (Mother Teresa and Rev. Martin Luther King), along with Gen. Marshall, Dr. Schweizer, and Lech Walesa, are exceptional standouts. Their excellence raises a very lackluster stew to the level of mediocrity.
