None of the Above

From yesterday’s Washington Post:

As the Republican presidential candidates gather this morning in Des Moines for their fourth debate, Iowa GOP voters are expressing limited enthusiasm for the field of current and potential aspirants, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. Their views appear to be a microcosm of GOP sentiment across the country and point to a wide open battle for the nomination….Just 19 percent of likely GOP caucus attendees said they were “very satisfied” with the field of candidates — far below satisfaction levels among Iowa Democrats — and poll respondents were badly fractured when asked to rate the candidates on political and personal attributes.

In the Post-ABC News poll, Romney led the field with 26 percent, with Giuliani at 14 percent and Thompson at 13 percent….The poll showed McCain and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee tied at 8 percent, followed by Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback and Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo at 5 percent, former Wisconsin governor Tommy G. Thompson at 4 percent, Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 2 percent and California Rep. Duncan Hunter at 1 percent.

And I don’t think these numbers got any better after yesterday morning’s GOP debate.

Mitt Romney whined, “I get tired of people who are holier than thou because they’ve been pro-life longer than I have.” First, Governor, welcome to our world. Second, you better get used to it. They also think they’re holier than you because your prophet was a dude born in 1830 with golden plates buried in backyard. Can’t wait for those gloves to come off.

Mayor Rudy Giuliani was all talk, attacking the Democrats for what his party can’t seem to do – keep America safe. Voters in Iowa might want to check with some real New Yorkers to get some truth about the man. Start with his own kids, then hit up Jerome Hauer, New York’s emergency management director from 1996 to 2000, the city’s bus drivers, and those heroes of 9/11, the firefighters.

Senator McCain lost what little credibility he had left saying about Iraq, “They are making progress, and we are winning on the ground.”

Oh, and which three candidates said they don’t believe in evolution? Oh yeah, Brownback, Huckabee and Tancredo.

Nice field you got there, GOP.
