Tman, if you had read closely, part of the point was that determination of bias is a question of judgment and/or belief. So, yes, here I am the one assessing the bias. I think most people, if asked, would determine the entirety of the content broadcast on WLAC and WTN to be agenda-driven conservative talk radio; but this is merely a believe on my part. Each of us could conduct a poll. I'm sure yours would indicate that a significant portion of the local population observes a liberal bias at WPLN.

And didn't we just finish a long discussion wherein I said that I'm specifically not looking for government intervention to help me succeed commercially? Mary and I are building a business incrementally, and we're looking to the market to make it happen. We're doing market research to assess demand, and we'll provide the supply. So far, so good. More on that, soon.

Our idea is that people want a forum wherein specifically political ideas can be discussed without yelling and hanging up when the only issue is disagreement. And we admit that our forum is not going to be quite as unbiased as Teddy Bart's Round Table because we think there aren't many outlets advocating progressive policy in an agenda-driven fashion. Based on several recent meetings and conversations, we are finding that enough other people think this is a good idea that we'll soon be able to gather more evidence about whether liberal talk radio is viable in the marketplace.

As I covered in my recent FCC testimony, there are 170 hours of conservative talk radio where a similar agenda-driven bias is apparent, being broadcast in Middle Tennessee.

According to Freddie, the bias is pronounced and non-negotiable. And since he has decided that there is this bias, it is either unfair or undemocratic depending on what fairness doctrine he's referring to.

There are 0 corresponding hours of liberal or progressive talk radio being broadcast as a counterpoint.

Also according to Freddie, there are absolutely no liberally biased news sources in the Nashville market. None. Whether or not that's true really isn't the point for Freddie and Mary. Their point is that there needs to be a liberally biased news source to "counter-act" or balance I suppose the overwhelmingly conservative talk show stations in the Nashville market.

Freddie and Mary are somewhat vague as to how to level this playing field, but it should come as no suprise that they believe the government should be in the business of making sure that there are liberally biased news sources to balance the playing field.

The problem here is that the conservatively biased stations did not need government assistance to gain this advantage in the Nashville market. They did it through advertising and donors and so forth, the way a normal business operates in a market.

Freddie and Mary are crying wolf. One thing the average Nashvillian is most definitely NOT lacking is news sources- conservative, liberal or otherwise. Between the Scene, the blogosphere, the NYT, THE WSJ, the alphabet channels, CNN/FOX, talk radio, NPR, etc.etc, there is most certainly not a LACK of news sources.

What Freddie and Mary are mad about is that there aren't enough sources that THEY approve of.

One way to win in the market place of ideas is to, well, have a very good idea. Whining that Rush and Gill are preventing people from getting a liberally biased news perspective is in my opinion, a very weak idea.
